Star Names of Capricornus
a Giedi or Al gedi is Arabic for "kid," also spelled Al Gedi and means "The Kid."
- Other sources call it Al Giedi, "goat," and Al-Jady', "the goat."
- In modern times this is a1 Prima Giedi and a2 Secunda Giedi
- Other names for Giedi: Prima Gi'eda, Algiedi' Prima, Gredi, Alge'di, Secunda Gi'eda, Algiedi' Secunda, Dschab'be, Dsha'beh.
b Dabih, Da'bih, is an Arabic word "slaughter," that probably as the word Sa'd adh-dhabih means "lucky star of the slaughterer," referring to the ritual sacrifice of goats in ancient times.
- Note: connection with Cancer where Adam and Eve were made coats of skins to cover their nakedness and the spilling of blood for those sins that leads all the way to the sacrifice of the Lamb.
- Rolleston called this Ma'Asad, "the slaying (from the word destroying - Psalm 91:6)."
- Like the atoning sacrifices of Moses in Leviticus 10:16,17 "And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin offering...seeing it is most holy, and God hath given it to you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the Lord."

- Hebrew qeteb, keh'-teb, from an unused root meaning to cut off, ruin, destroying, destruction.
- J. Epping (1889) "Astronmisches Aus Babylon," provides the Babylonian and Hassan Al-Saba (Saudia Arabia) provides the Arabic source for the following 28 lunar mansion names listed as:
- Arabic #22 Sa'd al-Dhâbih, Caadaldeba, Al Sad Al Dhabih, "Luck of Sacrificers," or "The Lucky One of the Slaughters."
- Capricornus star name b Dabih is probably Arabic for "lucky star of the slaughter," referring to the ritual sacrifice of goats in ancient times.
- The Coptic Mansion of the moon according to Kircher is upeutos, the arm of sacrifice, associated with Sadabacha, Zodeboloch, Zandedena, the shepherd or The sacrifice of arm, Latin Brachium sacrificii, connection to Al Sa'd al Dhabih, The Fortune of the Slayers (Sahaddadebe).
- Richard H. Allen states, in Coptic Egypt it was Opeutus, Brachium Sacrificii; and Miss Clerke says that it was figured in that country as a Mirror, emblematic of life.

- Rolleston stated that the Coptic name was Hupenius, meaning "station of bearing," from the Biblical chamber - Psalm 19:5.

- Hebrew chuppah, khoop-paw', from Heb. chaphah, khaw-faw', a primary root to cover, by implication a veil, thus a canopy, chamber, closet, defence.
- In the "Gospel of the Stars, by Joseph Seiss, page 65, "Coptic Hupenius the station or mansion of bearing."
- In "The Witness of the Stars," by E.W. Bullinger, page 75 "In the Zodiacs of Denderah and Esneh, in Egypt, it (Capricornus) is half-goat and half-fish, and it is there called Hu-penius, which means the place of the sacrifice."
- One source shows the #20 manzil of the lunar mansion, as Sa'd al Dhabih.
- To Rolleston it is the 22nd manzil of the lunar mansion, called "Al Dabih, the sacrifice slain (Gen. 31:54)."
- In "The Witness of the Stars," by E.W. Bullinger, page 72 "Dabih (Syriac) the sacrifice slain," and also "Al Dabik and Al Dehabeh (Arabic) have the same meaning."
- Rolleston shows the Syriac Dabih, and the Arabic Al Dabih, "the sacrifice slain (Gen. 31:54)."
- Rolleston also states Al Dshabeh, as "the sacrifice slain (also the slaying, Arabic)."
- Sacrifice.
- Hebrew zebach, zeh'-bakh, from Heb. zabach, zaw-bakh', a primary root to slaughter, thus properly a slaughter, i.e. the flesh of an animal, by implication a sacrifice (the victim or the act), offer(-ing), sacrifice.
- In the "Gospel of the Stars," by Joseph Seiss, page 142, the 10th name of the lunar mansion, "Al Dibah, the sacrifice slain."
g Nashira, Na'shira, some philologists say the name is Arabic for "fortunate one," others say its meaning is unknown.
- One source suggest it means "field," which references to the Sumerian ASH.GAN of Pegasus.
- Sa'd Nashirah, Sa'd al Nashirah, Sa'd ubna'shirah, Saib' Nacch-ru-ah, means "The lucky star of Nashirah (untranslated)."
- Rolleston and in "The Witness of the Stars," by E.W. Bullinger, page 72 "Sa'ad al Naschira, the record of the cutting off," the Biblical record - 1 Chron. 20:3.

- Hebrew zakar, zaw-kar', a primary root to mark (so as to be recognized), i.e. to remember, recount, record.
- Hebrew sahed, saw-hade', from an unused root meaning to testify, a witness, record.
d Deneb Algedi, De'neb Algeidi', "tail of the goat."
- Arabic Dha'nab al-Ja'dy (Ja'de), "Tail of the goat."
- Also spelled Deneb Al Gedi "The Sacrifice Cometh."
- As seen in "The Witness of the Stars," by E.W. Bullinger, page 76 "d Deneb Al Gedi, the sacrifice cometh," "the coming," plus "the sacrifice."
- Rolleston denotes Hebrew Deneb, "the Lord or Judge cometh."
- Other names for Deneb Algedi: Denebalchedi', Deneb Algethi, Scheddi', Sheddi, Al Mu'ha naim, Mu'hibbain.

J. Epping (1889) "Astronmisches Aus Babylon," provides the Babylonian and Hassan Al-Saba (Saudia Arabia) provides the Arabic source for the following 28 lunar mansion names listed as:
- Babylonian #26 Qarnu-ahû.
- Babylonian #27 Maharahina-ahû.
- Babylonian #28 Arkatahina-ahû.
- Of interest is the Sumerian ah-ú: pasture grazing pig ('pig' + 'plants, grass'), whereas in Delphinus we find the Sumerian ah: domestic pig.

- In regard to the 5,000 year old Tablet of the 30 stars (lunar mansions) from Birs-Nimroud,
- Asterism XXVI (26) is seen as Kakkab Tsir/ /Ilu Nin-ki-gal:
- Thus Kakkab Tsir means "The Asterism of the Snake."
- Then Ilu Nin-ki-gal means "The Goddess Queen-of-the-Great-Region."
- It is made up of h (eta) (Sabik), x (Xi) (Wajrik) and J (theta, q) (Kashud) Ophiuchi.
- Ninkigal (Nin-lil, Nin-ge, Ereshki-gal, or Persephone), its regent-divinity is "Queen-of-the-Ghost-World" and "Queen-of-the-Underworld" (Scheol-Hades).

- Capricornus, Muna-kha, the Goat-Fish (Suhur-mas, Suhu-massa, Fish-Goat) is the last lunar mansion.
- Sumerian Kha, fish.
- Menes the "goat-god," is also known as:
- Assyrian Munaxa (Capricornus).
- Latin Amnis.
- Chinese Mo Ki, "goat-fish."
- Brown claims, the Akkadian goat god Uz (Sumerian ùz, ud5, ut5: she-goat) presided over the revolution of the Sun, (Vedic Pushan, Semitic Dionysos, Norse Thor), this star pattern was called "The Yoke."
- Yoke.
- Hebrew 'ol, ole, or 'owl, from Heb. 'alal, aw-lal', to effect, thus a yoke (as imposed on the neck).
- Hebrew 'alah (Chaldean), al-aw', a holocaust, burnt offering.
- Hebrew tsemed, tseh'-med, a yoke or team of oxen.
- Hebrew mowtah, mo-taw', fem. of Heb. mowt, mote', a pole, by implication an ox-bow, hence bands, heavy, staves, yoke.
