The 14th day of Ziv is Later Passover, the Second Passover that is held for those who were unavoidably absent from Passover celebrations as well as for those who are considered ritually unclean.

- Hebrew Ziv, zeev', also ziw, probably from an unused root meaning to be prominent, properly brightness [compare to Heb. ziyv (Chaldean), zeev, (fig.) cheerfulness, brightness, countenance], i.e. (fig.) the month of flowers, corresponds to Ijar or May.
- After the Exile the Hebrew second month of Ziv was replaced by Hebrew Iyar or Iyyar ("month of flowers") the eighth month in the Jewish calendar.
- Akkadian Ajaru, very similar to Ijar.

In the Tablets from pre-Sargonic (before 2334 B.C.) the Calendar of Ur give us nine month names, however their order is not known. The following is one of those nine names:

The calendar reformed in the Ur III period by Shulgi, king of Sumer from 2094-2047 BC. Five of the pre-Sargonic month names survived the transition, and the total number of months rose from nine to twelve. The following is one of the twelve:
The following Sumerian names is greatly associated with goats, and may have some connection with Orion who has Sumerian star names such as sipa-zi-an-na, "The True Shepherd of Anu," or Auriga who is sometimes called the Shepherd, and star names connected with goat herds, rather than that of Capricornus as the Goat-Fish.

Sumerian Mashdagu is considered in some sources as the first month of the year.
If this is the Sumerian ma-da-gu then (mada, goat kid/ma, goats, one-half + da, side, hold, protect + gu, wool)
possibly meaning "The Goat Kid's Wool" or "The Goats Protect."
