Star Names of Corona Borealis
a Gemma or Alphecca which means "the gem."
- Alphecca is an older name, which in Arabic means "the brightest."
- Arabic Al Phecca which also means "The Shining."
- Arabic Al-Fakkah, means "the broken" (ring of stars).
- One source claims it is called Al Phena, "the shining one."
- Rolleston claims this is in Psalm 50:2 which is shining (actually in the KJV "shined").
- Hebrew yapha', yaw-fah', a primary root to shine, be light, shew, self, (cause to) shine (forth).
- Shining or Brightest.
- Hebrew nogahh, no'-gah, from Heb. nagahh, naw-gaw, a primary root to glitter, shine, thus brilliancy, shining.
- Sumerian BAL.TÉSH.A, Akkadian kakkab balti, "Star of Dignity," Corona Borealis (?), or the star name for a (Gemma or Alphecca, the gem, Arabic, the brightest, the shining).
- Other words for Shining from the Holy Bible:
- Ziz.
- Hebrew tsits, shining, a cliff near the West side of the Red Sea on the way from En Gedi to Tekoa. Jehoshaphat had a miraculous victory over a great horde of Moabite, Ammonites and some Syrian here.
- Flowers.
- Hebrew tsiyts, tseets, or tsits, from Heb. tsuwts, tsoots, a primary root to twinkle, thus properly glistening, i.e. a burnished plate, also a flower (as bright colored).
b Nusakan or Nusa'kan which is Arabic for "two lines [of stars]."
- Arabic An-Nasaqan, means "the two series."
g Coronae Borealis (no name).
d Coronae Borealis (no name).
