To return to the Wesir (was associated with an earlier deity Andjety),
or List of Netjeru.
Andjety, "He of Andjet" meaning that Andjety was from Djedu (Busiris) in the 9th nome, Lower Egypt. Djedu was also where the "djed pillar," the backbone of Wesir is thought to have originated. He is mentioned as early as in the Pyramid Texts, where the king's power is equalled to Andjety's. The 4th Dynasty king Sneferu is also depicted wearing the same crown as Andjety.
It is believed that he was a precursor of Wesir (Osiris) by his attributes of holding the crook and flail, the same as Wesir carries and which is a sign of dominion over the Netherworld. Andjety also wears the high conical crown flanked by two high plumes, reminding of the "atef" crown worn by Wesir. He also had funerary function for rebirth in the afterlife as did Wesir.
Another epithet for Andjety is "bull of vultures," used in the Coffin Texts from the Middle Kingdom, and which points to his procreative role in connection with different goddesses. See a title for Wesir, "He Who Dwells in Andjet," the Lower Egypt cult at Djedu (Gr. Busiris), where Andjety was the original local deity.
