Star Names of Sagitta
a Sham, is the Arabic word for "Arrow."
- Arrow.
- Sumerian ti: side, rib; arrow (cf., dih and tìl).
- Sumerian ti...ra: to shoot an arrow ('arrow' + 'to stab').
- Sumerian (gi)ti-zú: barbed arrow ('arrow' + 'teeth; flint').
- Hebrew chitstsiy, khits-tsee', or chetsiy, chay-tsee', prol. from Heb. chets, khayts, from Heb. chatsats, khaw-tsats', a primary root as denom. to shoot an arrow, thus properly a piercer, i.e. arrow, a wound, fig. (of God) thunder-bolt, (by interchange for Heb. 'ets, ates, wood, sticks) the shaft of a spear, archer, arrow, dart, shaft, staff, wound, thus an arrow.
- Hebrew resheph, reh'-shef, from Heb. saraph, saw-raf, a prim. root to be on fire, thus a live coal, by analogy lightning; fig. an arrow (as flashing through the air); spec. fever - arrow, (burning) coal, burning heat, hot thunderbolt.
- Of interest is Tuesday (Tiwesdaeg, 'Tiu's day or Mars' Day) as the following were associated with an arrow in some way.
- The Babylonian and Sabian Nergal (arrow shooting god of II Kings 17:30).
- The Greek Hercules or Ares, Roman and French Mars (Martis, the god of war).
- German and English Zivis, Zio (Tiu Tiw, Tiwes, a god of war and sky, Tyr Old Norse).
- Rolleston stated that, "Hebrew Scham, means destroying (desolate - Ezek. 35:12)."
- Desolate.
- Hebrew shamem, shaw-mame', a primary root, to stun, thus desolate.
- In "The Witness of the Stars," by E.W. Bullinger, page 80 "The Hebrew name is Sham, destroying, or desolate."
- Other names for Sham:
- Arabic Al sahm, Al Sahm, Al Soham', "the arrow."
- Chinese Seih Muh.
- Hindi Ashadha, the 18th and 19th nakshatros.
