Star Names of Crux

a Acrux, "alpha of Crux," is a combination of its Greek-letter designation and the name of the constellation. b Mimosa is for unknown reasons but may come from the Latin word for "actor" and is also a genus of tropical plants. g Gacrux, "gamma of Crux," is a combination of the Greek letter and the name of the constellation. d Crucis (no name), which marks the western arm of the cross.

e Crucis (no name), which seems misplaced for it is just off the mark to form the intersection of a perfect cross.

There are only 5 stars which are relevant in the constellation of Crux.

Star Clusters of Crux

Star Cluster NGC 4755 is called the "Jewel Box."
