a Acrux, "alpha of Crux," is a combination of its Greek-letter designation and the name of the constellation.

b Mimosa is for unknown reasons but may come from the Latin word for "actor" and is also a genus of tropical plants.
- One source claims this is the "mime" or "mimosas" (plant).
g Gacrux, "gamma of Crux," is a combination of the Greek letter and the name of the constellation.
- It marks the top of the cross.
- It is a binary star.
d Crucis (no name), which marks the western arm of the cross.
e Crucis (no name), which seems misplaced for it is just off the mark to form the intersection of a perfect cross.
There are only 5 stars which are relevant in the constellation of Crux.
