Eliezer

[(Resh Zayin Ayin Yod Lamed Aleph) A(uh-eh)L(ee)A(eh)Z(eh)R, Eliezer (eli-e’-zur) - Heb. ‘Eliy’ezer, el-ee-eh’-zer, or eli’ezer, from Heb. ‘el, God, and Heb. ‘ezer, ay’-zer, from Heb. ‘azar, aw-zar’, root, to surround, aid, help, thus meaning God is (of) help. Eliezer was Abram’s chief servant, and "son of his house," that is, one of his large household. He is named "Eliezer of Damascus" probably to distinguish him from others of the same name (Gen. 15:20). Probably he is the unnamed servant Abraham sent to his own country and kindred to secure a bride for Isaac, his son of promise (Gen. 24).
